Variations of Poker Games

Poker generally uses a 52-card deck, but this is usually the only constant. There are a number of different poker games out there. With draw poker games, you are dealt your cards and can discard some of them hoping to draw new, better cards. Stud poker games involve dealing some cards face down and others face up, but you don't get to discard anything. In community games, you are dealt cards and then the remaining cards are placed face up in the center of the table for everyone to use.

At Doyle's Poker Room, try your hand at favorites. Including:

  • 7 Card Stud
  • 7 Card Stud Hi Lo
  • Omaha
  • Omaha Hi Lo
  • Texas Hold'em

The basic goal of most poker games is to have the highest five-card hand. Pairs, three-of-a-kinds, straights and flushes are hands you'll want to have. With each round, players can fold their hand and drop out of that round or bet money on their hand hoping to either have the best hand or bluff their way to a win.

In Hi-Lo games, you are trying to get either a high hand or the lowest hand at the table. The pot is split between the person holding the highest hand and the lowest hand.

Rankings of Poker Hands

In poker, Aces are always high. The ranking of cards goes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King, Ace.

From lowest value to highest value, here are the poker hand rankings:
