UIGEA Law and Massachusetts

As you know, the UIGEA Law prohibiting internet gambling will commence on June1. At a recent House Joint Committee on Economic and Emerging Technologies in Massachusetts, a bill was voted upon to introduce land casino gambling but bans internet gambling. The bill passed and will now go to the House Ways and Means Committee, then on to the House for debate. The agreement to establish two land-based casinos, yet ban internet gambling is contradictory. While this bill would increase tax revenues for the state, it seems ludicrous in its intent. Moreover, the bill would not only ban internet gambling, but online poker as well. This flies in the face of the fact that $6 billion in revenue was realized from internet gambling in 2008.
